Before performing a modular swap, verify your eligibility for factory-backed support. Fairphone protects the original owner against manufacturing defects in materials and workmanship. This helps the technical team confirm that the device is a genuine product used according to the guidelines in the user manual.
Have your IMEI number ready. It can be found in the phone settings or on the original packaging. You should also keep a digital proof of purchase from an authorized seller available for verification.
For newer models, such as the Fairphone 5, complete the Extended Warranty registration on the official Fairphone website within the required timeframe to activate the extended multi-year coverage.
If your screen has developed a dead pixel or a modular connector has failed, it is time to perform a visual assessment. The warranty is specifically designed to address manufacturing defects, such as internal circuit failures, defective solder joints, or hardware malfunctions present from the factory.
It is important to determine if the failure is a factory defect rather than a result of accidental damage or improper self-repair. Check for signs of mechanical failure that align with standard manufacturing errors. Keep in mind that normal wear and tear including battery capacity loss over time, scratches on the casing, or damage caused by using non-compatible third-party chargers is handled separately from the core hardware protection.
To resolve a hardware failure, you must coordinate with the specialized technical support team. Because Fairphone devices are modular, the team may first guide you through a digital diagnostic to see if the issue can be resolved by simply replacing a specific module (like the camera or speaker), which can be shipped directly to you.
You must compile a digital submission through their official support portal, including a detailed description of the failure and any relevant photos of the Defective Area. Once your data is submitted, the technical team will perform a formal assessment to determine if a self-repair module or a full factory service is the right solution. They aim to resolve these claims in a way that maximizes the lifespan of your device while minimizing electronic waste.
Standard Warranty: 2 years from the date of purchase or delivery for all Fairphone products.
Extended Warranty: Up to 3 additional years if the device is registered for the extended warranty.
Total Warranty: Up to 5 years in total (2-year standard + up to 3-year extension) for eligible devices like Fairphone 4, Fairphone 5, and Fairphone (Gen. 6)
